theSpace Philanthropy
Our instrument of Expression
TheSpacePhilanthropy is an opportunity for young people to take control of their future. The program is based on an understanding that for young people to take charge they must be independent, dignified and allowed the freedom to learn and grow with and from others. theSpacePhilanthropy allows young people to craft and influence a developmental agenda that is inclusive, and built on solid relationships with the broader community of actors. The program addresses the sustainability challenge that emanates from the shrinking financial base for youth initiatives as well as the placement of inordinate conditionalities to the financial support where it is available. To this end, theSpace’s philanthropic arm will pursue meaningful intellectual, material and other resources to support theSpace’s work as well as support young social entrepreneurs.
theSpace’s partnership model is anchored on the above philosophy to programming for transformational change. It seeks partnerships with forward leaning organisations that see the value of investing in young people.
- Section7: We have successfully incubated Section7, a platform on the national Constitution, harnessing citizen energy and mobilising communities to ensure that each citizen can – individually and in concert with others – use the national Constitution for self-advancement and self-protection. Section7 raises, develops, supports and engages leaders based on national Constitutional awareness and values, and we use Constitutional research, advocacy, and leadership training for agenda-setting and action. - 1 Million Girls Initiative: is our initiative aimed at building a society that places equal value on girl’s education. We pay school fees and provide educational support to girls at risk of dropping out of school, who come from very poor backgrounds and with multiple levels of vulnerability. We believe that education, beyond being a right for every child, provides an equal chance for every girl to thrive and have a positive transition in life regardless of their background and social status.
- SDG Advocacy work: We are supporting 120 young leaders with tools and resources to program for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. In 2016, theSpace through the support of UN Zimbabwe convened the first training of trainers for 120 young leaders who continue to champion implementation of the SDGs in Zimbabwe. Learn More
